New Camellia blooming season

Dear visitors,

Our large collection of Camellia has started blooming.

On Sunday the Friends of Lisgar Garden on roster can provide you with a map of the garden to help you identify rare Camellias blooming in the garden.

If you like Camellias or want to get more insights on Camellia and gardening join us Sunday 2nd July for the Camellia gala day in Lisgar Garden.

Note: Wheelchairs and prams welcome – the inclinator (lift) will be operated from 10:30am to 4:00pm.– Free Admission
Purchase a French Crepe, a soup and hot drinks. No ATM on site, so please bring Cash!

The Friends of Lisgar Gardens and Hornsby Council  invite you to our 22d edition of the Camellia Gala Day.



Guest Presenters & Speakers:

Geoff Duggan – Expert on Dry Stone Walls

Geoff Duggan, Registered Master Craftsman, advanced instructor, examiner and member of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain. His work can be seen at the Mt Annan Australian Botanic Garden.

> From 11:00 to 12:10, Geoff Duggan will introduce us to Dry Stone Walls



> From 12:20 to 12:50, a member of the Eryldene Foundation(TBC) will speak on Pr. EG Waterhouse, who co-founded the Australian and New Zealand Camellia Research Society and built the Eryldene house and garden in Gorden with his wife Janet.

> From 14:20 to 14:50, members of the Beecroft Garden Club will speak on their garden club.

> From 12:20 to 12:50, Camellia bloom identification: Bring along your camellia blooms for identification – for every confirmed identification a gold coin donation would be appreciated.

> From 13:00 to 13:30,  Camellias Q&A – Australian camellia expert Dr Utick will reply to your questions on Camellias.

> From 13:30 to 14:10,  guided tour to view some of the camellia gems of Lisgar Gardens.


Sandy Marker on Ikebana

Sandy Marker, Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, 2015 Norman and Mary Sparnon scholarship winner for Australia. Sogetsu Ikebana is a school of Japanese art of flower arrangement.

> From 15:00 to 15:30, Sandy Marker will offer a demonstration of Sogetsu Ikebana.



Origami & paper craft – Hanae Bansemer
Hanae Bansemer and Sayoko Burton, experienced Japanese origami artists, Hanae and Sayoko enjoy sharing their knowledge and teaching others about different origami techniques and styles.


> From 13:40 to 14:50, come and learn from Hanae about different origami techniques and styles.

2014 Lisgar Gardens Musical Afternoon

Time: From 12:30 – 3.30 pm, 2 November 2014

Admission: Public. Free. Bring your own picnic.

Are you an adult who enjoy an afternoon of free quality music? Watch this space for our fabulous upcoming event.

2014 Lisgar Gardens Camellia Gala Day & Mini Expo

Time: 11:00-15:00, Sunday 3 August 2014

Admission: Public – Free.  Bring your own picnic basket.  Tea/coffee and biscuit available.  Donation welcome. 

Hornsby Council and Friends of Lisgar Gardens invite you to Visit Lisgar Gardens on Camellia Gala Day and Mini Expo of Community Groups.  Check out what Lisgar Gardens have to offer:

  • Thousands of camellia blooms, some on trees older than 50 years.
  • Special-guest’s talk on camellias.
  • Park information and history from the friendly members of Friends of Lisgar Gardens group.
  • Enjoy a quiet stroll among the serene trees.  Beautiful gardens all year round.
  • Perfect wedding venue, lovely picnic settings for a gathering with family and friends.

Community Events at Lisgar Gardens.

Lisgar Gardens traditionally hold three annual free community events:

Lisgar Gardens Teddy Bear’s Picnic:
Sunday 15th March 2015 – 11 am to 3 pm.

Lisgar Gardens Camellia Gala Day:
First Sunday in August – 11 am to 3 pm.

Lisgar Gardens Musical Afternoon:
First Sunday in November – 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm.


An inclinator to transport less-mobile visitors to the formal upper gardens.

A picnic table and picnic lawn on formal upper gardens.

Many more picnic tables in secluded settings in lower gardens.

Toilets including one with accessible access are available.

Note: no food sellers are available.  Please bring your own picnic.
