Camellia Gala Day 2017 – Some pictures

The Friends of Lisgar Gardens organised the 22d edition of the Camellia Gala Day on Sunday 2d July 2017.

Here are a few highlights of the day:

  •  Geoff Duggan, Registered Master Craftsman, advanced instructor, examiner and member of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain. His work can be seen at the Mt Annan Australian Botanic Garden
  • Dr Stephen Utick, Secretary of Camellias Australia, International Camellia Society Director for Australia, Walter Hazlewood Award of Honour
  • Sandy Marker, Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, 2015 Norman and Mary Sparnon scholarship winner for Australia. Sogetsu Ikebana is a school of Japanese art of flower arrangement
  • Hanae Bansemer and Sayoko Burton, experienced Japanese origami artists
  • The Edgeworth David Community Garden

New Camellia blooming season

Dear visitors,

Our large collection of Camellia has started blooming.

On Sunday the Friends of Lisgar Garden on roster can provide you with a map of the garden to help you identify rare Camellias blooming in the garden.

Lisgar Sessions at Lisgar Gardens, Hornsby

Hello friends!

Friends of Lisgar Garden proudly presents our exciting new event – Lisgar Sessions!

While the beautiful sun and flowers are greeting us, country music, capella music, Gypsy music, and world music, will ring their melody high into the sky, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on 26th March, 2017.

There will be delicious French crepes (savory), Cafe, Tea goumand, and coffee for sale.

Check out the facebook page for Darby Funk, who will be performing at our first Lisgar Session!

Please come and join us, we look forward to seeing you in the beautiful garden!

Huge success for the Teddy Bears Picnic 2016


A BIG THANK YOU to our wonderful entertainers who performed in front of a huge crowd and to the 1458 visitors who attended the Teddy Bears’ Picnic 2016.
We had such a wonderful time looking at all this children’s smiling faces!

If you attended, please take 5 minutes to fill out our short survey . This will help our team of volunteers to improve for the next Teddy Bears Picnic.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic is a free family friendly event.

Where: Lisgar Gardens, Lisgar Road, Hornsby NSW 2077
When: Sunday 3rd April 2016 from 11:00 to 16:00
What: a free family fun day
How: free parking on William Street or train to Hornsby Station (map below)

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic 2016 presents a rich and diverse program for the whole family. Along with the much-loved parade of Teddys and carers, there will be many entertaining activities for children:

* Music :
Ukulele by the Hornsby BUGs
Hornsby North School band
Hornsby South School band
Music by Jim Jam Music – NEW

* Move your body activities:
Zumba for kids (Zumba for kids with Katya)
Hula hoops performances (Spinjoy Hoop Dance)
Yoga for kids (Connect Kids Yoga) – 4 to 8 years – NEW

* Active and quiet activities:
Science workshop (Young Scientists) – 6 to 12 years- NEW
Animals to pat (Hornsby Heights Vet Hospital) – NEW
Face painting (Rainbow Face Painting)
Story telling
Teddy Health check (St John Ambulance Cadets)
Drawing and colouring competition
Guessing competition

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic is proudly part of the Healthy Living Festival.

Families are invited to come with their picnic blanket and basket, or they can purchase Fresh falafels and French crepes on site (CASH ONLY). Cordial, tea and coffee will be available for a gold coin donation.

An inclinator / lift at the end of Lisgar Road facilitates access for disabled visitors and families with prams.

Parking near Lisgar Gardens, Hornsby NSW



Lisgar road is a no through road and there are no parking spaces so please avoid entering Lisgar road except to drop off people or equipment.

Parking is available on William street, behind the Odeon Cinema.

Coming by train? The entrance to Lisgar Gardens is 15 minutes walk (1300m) from Hornsby Station. At the station, take the exit on the right towards Hornsby West Side.  William street will then lead you to Lisgar Road, second street on your left.
